Description / Trangia Gel Burner Cup with Lid for Gel or Solid Fuel
When a power cut interrupts normal cooking, a burner that works with gel or solid fuel gives you another way to heat water or food. The Trangia Gel Burner is a cup with a lid, and is an easy-to-use option for a home emergency box or camp cooking kit.
It has similar qualities to a spirit burner, with a slightly higher heat output. With gel, it boils 1 litre of water in 7 min; results vary according to weather and the quality of the fuel. It can also be used with solid fuel.
Where it fits in your kit
- Home emergency box: a backup cooking option during a power cut.
- Off-grid cooking kit: use with gel or solid fuel when away from mains power.
- Camp kitchen: a burner for heating water or food.
- 72-hour kit planning: include it alongside the fuel and cookware you intend to use.
Prep tips
- Store fuel separately and follow its own storage instructions.
- Practise setting up and using your cooking kit before you need it.
- Keep a second cooking method available so one piece of kit is not your only option.
