Petromax Steel Insert for Atago Griddle Plate

When you need to cook a full meal over an outdoor fire, this insert adds another useful surface to a compatible Atago setup. It fits the opening in the Atago Griddle Plate or works with the Cooking Support, giving you a place to grill food while other dishes cook on the plancha. It earns a place in an off-grid cooking kit where one fire needs to handle several parts of a meal. The insert creates grill stripes on steak, fillet and vegetables, while food such as roast potatoes or fried eggs can cook on the plancha at the same time. It can also provide a stable place for a pot, pan or percolator over the flames. Use BBQ and Coal Tongs to lift it when you need to add charcoal or wood through the opening.

Where it fits in your kit

• Camp cooking setup: add a grilling surface to an Atago meal.
• Off-grid cooking kit: prepare different parts of a meal over one fire.
• Outdoor kitchen: hold a pot, pan or percolator over the flames.
• Home emergency cooking equipment: keep a compatible cooking option ready for disruptions.

Prep tips

• Check that your Atago Griddle Plate or Cooking Support is available before packing the insert.
• Keep BBQ and Coal Tongs with your cooking equipment for lifting the insert.
• Practise setting up the cooking arrangement before relying on it for an off-grid meal.
• Allow hot cookware and the insert to cool before handling or storing them.
