Description / Petromax KX50 50L Passive Cool Box - Sand

When a power cut lasts longer than expected, keeping food cold becomes a practical concern. The Petromax KX50 is a 50 l passive cool box that needs no compressor or absorber; use it with commercially available ice, cold packs or dry ice. Its double-walled, void-insulated construction is stated to keep ice cool for up to 12 days.

For the best cooling, pre-cool the box and load it with pre-cooled food or drinks. Larger blocks of ice are recommended, placed at the top because cold air sinks. Open the lid only when needed, and keep the box in a cool, shaded place away from direct sunlight. An integrated drain helps remove melt water, while the lid cavities allow it to be lashed down for transport.

Where it fits in your kit

  • Home emergency box: extra cold storage when a power cut affects your fridge.
  • Off-grid camp: keep provisions chilled on multi-day trips.
  • Outdoor cooking: store ingredients close to your cooking area.
  • Vehicle-based trips: the shaped design can be stowed in a boot or below deck.

Prep tips

  • Pre-cool the box and its contents before loading it.
  • Keep it shaded and open it as seldom as practical.
  • Plan an alternative way to keep essential food safe if ice supplies run out.
