When a power cut lasts longer than expected, keeping chilled food cool becomes a practical concern. The Petromax KX50 50L passive cool box uses ice, cold packs or dry ice rather than a compressor or absorber, making it a useful backup for home outages and multi-day trips. Its double-walled, void-insulated construction keeps ice cool for up to 12 days.
Pre-cool the box and load it with already-chilled food or drinks. Larger blocks of ice are recommended; place ice or cold packs on top, open the lid only when needed and keep the box in a cool, shaded place. The 50 L interior can hold 70 x 0.33 l cans or 20 x 1 l bottles upright. An integrated drain helps remove melt water.
