Description / Petromax FT4.5 4L Cast Iron Dutch Oven with Flat Base
When a power cut or a day at camp puts your usual cooking facilities out of reach, the Petromax FT4.5 is a cast-iron Dutch oven for cooking over an open fire or with charcoal and briquettes. Its 4-litre pot offers a practical way to prepare meals outdoors, while the flat base also suits use in an oven at home.
Cast iron stores and distributes warmth efficiently. The pre-treated, seasoned surface means it does not need an initial seasoning before use. Its lid has a raised edge to hold embers or charcoal, so the oven can be heated from above as well as below; it can also be used for baking bread.
Where it fits in your kit
- Home emergency box: useful backup cookware when you have a safe, suitable outdoor cooking setup.
- Camp kitchen: cook over an open fire, charcoal or briquettes.
- Off-grid cooking: prepare meals without relying on your usual kitchen appliances.
- Home oven: use it for cooking or baking at home as well as outdoors.
Prep tips
- Plan how you will cook with it and make sure your chosen fire or charcoal setup is safe and permitted.
- Practise using the Dutch oven before relying on it for a camp meal or during a disruption.
- Pair it with suitable fuel and cooking tools, and keep those supplies together in your cooking kit.
