Description / Petromax FT3 1.6L Cast Iron Dutch Oven
When a power cut or time off-grid means cooking outdoors, the Petromax FT3 1.6L Cast Iron Dutch Oven gives you a way to prepare meals over an open fire or with charcoal and briquettes. Its cast iron stores and distributes heat, and the pre-treated seasoned finish means it can be used without first seasoning it.
Use the raised edge on the lid to hold embers or charcoal so the oven heats from above as well as below; this is useful for baking bread. A thermometer hole lets you check the temperature without lifting the lid, and the upturned lid can be used as a pan. This model has no legs.
Where it fits in your kit
- Camp cooking: prepare stews and other meals over a suitable open fire.
- Off-grid cooking: make use of charcoal or briquettes when usual cooking facilities are unavailable.
- Home emergency box: keep it with planned outdoor cooking equipment for household disruptions.
- Home oven: use it for cooking or baking indoors as well as outdoors.
Prep tips
- Plan how you will store and use fuel safely before relying on open-fire cooking.
- Practise with the Dutch oven before you need it, and take care when handling hot cast iron.
- Keep suitable heat-resistant gloves or tools with your cooking kit.
