Description / Petromax Essential 5.5L Cast Iron Dutch Oven
When a power cut interrupts normal cooking, or you need a reliable pot at camp, the Petromax Essential Dutch Oven gives you a way to prepare meals over an open fire or other heat sources. Its 5.5-litre cast-iron pot is pre-seasoned and designed to retain heat and distribute it evenly.
Use it for stews, roasting or baking bread. The multifunctional lid can also be used as a frying pan, and the hanging mechanism lets you suspend the pot over a campfire. Its reduced material thickness makes this version lighter than traditional Dutch ovens.
Where it fits in your kit
- Home emergency box: a cooking option when the usual kitchen setup is unavailable and you have a suitable heat source.
- Off-grid cooking: use it over an open fire, grill or stove.
- Camp kitchen: prepare meals for 4–8 people in one pot.
- Outdoor cooking kit: use the lid as a frying pan for extra cooking flexibility.
Prep tips
- Practise cooking with your chosen heat source before relying on it during an outage or camp.
- Keep suitable heat-resistant gloves and a lid lifter with your cooking equipment for handling hot cast iron.
- After cleaning, dry cast iron thoroughly and store it somewhere dry.
- Plan a backup cooking method and fuel source in case your first option is unavailable.
