Description / Petromax Atago 3 mm Steel Griddle Plate
When cooking moves outdoors during a power cut, on a camp trip or while off-grid, the Petromax Atago Griddle Plate adds a plancha-style surface to the Atago. Its 3 mm thick oiled steel and different temperature zones make it a practical way to sear food in the centre while keeping other ingredients warm at the edge.
Season the plate carefully before its first use. Once the fire is going, it heats quickly; add wood or charcoal through the hole in the middle of the plate. A patina forms with use and provides a natural non-stick effect. The three-arm plug-in rack positions the plate, and the handles make it easier to move after cooking.
Where it fits in your kit
- Home emergency cooking: an outdoor cooking option when the usual kitchen is unavailable, used with the Atago.
- Camp kitchen: cook and keep food warm on one plate.
- Off-grid cooking: use with wood or charcoal when preparing meals outdoors.
- Atago cooking setup: add a griddle surface, then remove it after cooking so the Atago can run as a central fireplace.
Prep tips
- Season the plate carefully before using it for the first time.
- Practise managing the fire and using the different heat zones before you need to cook during a disruption.
- Keep the plate and its plug-in rack together so the cooking setup is ready when needed.
