Description / British Army MTP Waterproof Basha - Grade 1
When a storm or sudden evacuation means you need cover outdoors, the British Army MTP Waterproof Basha gives you a lightweight shelter that can be rigged in different ways. This Grade 1 item is used but fully functional, with minimal wear and all key components intact.
Made from waterproof silnylon, it measures approximately 255 cm × 220 cm and weighs around 950 g. Reinforced suspension points and brass eyelets offer multiple setup options, while anti-gutter suspension points help prevent water pooling. Grab handles along the edges and centre also allow it to be used as an improvised stretcher.
Where it fits in your kit
- Home emergency box: a shelter option for storm disruption or evacuation.
- Grab bag: packs down compactly for a short-notice move.
- Camp and bushcraft: rig it as cover when spending time outdoors.
- Shelter building: use the eyelets and reinforced suspension points for flexible setups.
Prep tips
- Practise setting it up before relying on it in poor weather.
- Check the fabric, handles, eyelets and suspension points before each trip.
- Pair it with suitable cordage and a separate sleeping layer for a more complete shelter setup.
