Robens Zigzag Slumber Foam Sleeping Mat, R-Value 2.2

If a storm, evacuation or other disruption means sleeping away from your usual bed, a mat gives you a layer between your sleeping bag and the ground. The Robens Zigzag Slumber is a lightweight closed-cell EVA foam sleeping mat, with an R value of 2.2 for insulation from the ground.

Its zigzag construction folds down to 15 × 48 × 9 cm, and pack straps help keep it together for transport. At 183 cm long and 50 cm wide, it provides a practical sleeping surface for camp or an improvised place to rest.

Where it fits in your kit

• Home emergency box: useful if you need to make a temporary sleeping space indoors.
• Grab bag: folds down for transport when you may need to sleep away from home.
• Camp and bushcraft: adds a layer of cushioning and insulation from the ground.
• Off-grid trips: a simple sleep-system component that does not need inflation.

Prep tips

• Practise folding and securing the mat with its pack straps before packing it away.
• Pair it with a sleeping bag suited to the conditions; a mat is only one part of a sleep system.
• Store it somewhere clean and dry, and check it periodically for damage.
