Gerber Gutsy Compact Fish Processing Tool

When an unexpected fish catch needs preparing, the Gerber Gutsy gives you four processing functions in one compact tool. Its slim, solid-state design makes it a practical option for a camp or home food-preparation kit where fishing is part of your self-reliance plan.

The scaler has ground teeth for removing scales, while the gutting hook opens the fish at the vent. A built-in scooper helps remove remaining veins, and a bottle opener completes the tool. Rinse it with fresh water after use and dry it thoroughly with a clean towel.

Where it fits in your kit

• Camp kitchen: a compact option for preparing a lawful fish catch for food.
• Bushcraft camp: keeps several fish-processing functions together when camp cooking includes a catch.
• Home food-preparation kit: useful alongside your fishing and cooking equipment.
• Shed or woodstore: a sensible place to keep and maintain specialist camp and food-preparation tools.

Prep tips

• Rinse with fresh water after use and dry thoroughly with a clean towel, as Gerber recommends.
• Practise using the scaler, hook and scooper before relying on them during a trip.
• Keep it with suitable food-preparation and cooking equipment, and check its condition before you set out.
