Description / Gerber Gorge Compact Folding Shovel
When an outdoor disruption means you need to dig or secure a shelter, the Gerber Gorge is a compact folding shovel that gives you several useful functions in one tool. It can earn a place in a camp kit or home emergency box without taking up the space of a full-size shovel.
Use it as a spade, or fold it back to expose the pick feature for hard-packed ground and the hammer at the base for driving tent stakes. The push-button slide mechanism makes it easy to fold away, and the nylon drawstring bag makes it easier to store and transport.
Where it fits in your kit
- Camp kit: a folding spade for digging and a hammer for tent stakes.
- Bushcraft kit: the pick feature is intended for hard-packed ground.
- Home emergency box: keep a compact digging tool with practical household supplies.
- Shed or woodstore: store it with tools used for outdoor and garden tasks.
Prep tips
- Keep the shovel and its drawstring bag together so the tool is ready to store or take to camp.
- Practise folding and unfolding it before you rely on it outdoors.
- Pair digging tools with suitable gloves and other task-appropriate equipment.
